Pros

I got some training in development and placed in a blue chip IB quite quickly initially

Cons

So I returned to FDM office and was treated like a child and when I wanted to pursue more training at some stages I was actually denied access to this, I was actually told that I was not allowed to partake in further training... despite this I decided to train myself with books and conversations with other developers and some of the trainers, the consultant support team didn't do much in means of support but they really just took notes on what you had been doing. The third year rate is not based on your work or stream but which is somewhat easier for clients to plan budgets but if as a moutie the offer doesn't seem fair for the market (considering you are a contractor you get less than most permanent employees do and in some cases less than graduate programs) FDM basically says you can be replaced, which in some cases is true however if you are mid project or if it involves multiple people leaving at once this can be some what of an issue considering the uptake time etc and not to mention any training that the replacement might be missing, but fdm does not care as long as they get paid. Communication within the company is also horrible, if one was to give resignation to HR it is almost guaranteed that the client and FDM client manager would not find out until the person had stopped coming in for a week a month after and pending the client does try to get in touch chances are they will be ignored unless someone says "legal" and which point it will be a little late. I really love my placement and enjoy the work and environment (on site) and it seems a shame that I will have to leave due to FDM not negotiating with a pay packet but instead offering you well under market rate. The company seems to be a sinking ship hence why non trainee staff are dropping like flies and to save money they are recruiting trainees to fill the spots without the experience or knowledge of using the skills in a working environment.

Pros

Lets be honest. Unemployment is now at 8% with 21% of 16-24 year olds unemployed. FDM gives graduates a chance in a time when it is very hard for people our age to find real jobs. OK the training is unpaid but myself and many of my friends form University ended up doing unpaid internships for extended periods of time- these were all at companies with no job offer at the end. At least the technical training gives you actual skills, as opposed to being good at getting coffee or photocopying. Also its important to remember that during the training FDM has salespeople (like them or not) working to find you a job. Yes the company makes money on each placement. I have never known anyone deny this. At the end of the day it is business and all businesses have to make money. Lets not be precious as a graduate we all have lots to learn and I have learnt a lot working at FDM. At the start of your career its about getting the foot in the door and then working your way up.

Cons

The main Con is that you have to be geographically flexible if this is something you cannot do. Then FDM isn't the right choice. Also training does take 4 months unpaid, but as i said earlier would you rather spend 4 months getting better with real world skills or getting someone coffee!

Pros

It is a job that pays.

Cons

They will promise you opportunities that don't exist. The company they contract you to will promise you work that you will not be assigned. I was a Java Consultant with a masters degree in Math and certificate in full stack and I was shoved into a manual testing position that required zero coding and constantly dangled automation in front of my face. When I was asked to look at Selenium, I studied it in some of the copious amounts of downtime i had and was reprimanded during the next meeting for 'wasting company time'. I moved from Texas to New Jersey for my first position. After contracts with the company were terminated, I was pulled off my assignment only to be abruptly fired for "lack of geoflexibility" despite willingness to move to several places they do business including NYC and even Denver. There is no accountability from them as the only response they give is "the decision is final". There is no way to appeal a blatant lie. Their company has no integrity and side with business majors over people that know how chemicals and physics and electrical components work just seem like bad life decisions. They will say you can reapply but they won't hire you. They'd full of it at every angle.
