Pros

Reasonable work-life balance. Confortable environment.

Cons

Poor or no recognition for excellent work. Very low salaries, cost of living in Ireland is very high and the salaries doesn't keep up. All the products have very complex implementation, commonly over-engineered. Poor reuse of industry standard technologies, it has a tendency of creating things from scratch involving a lot o people with no experience. Difficult to deal with many veteran staff, they have inflated egos and very frequently bad arguments, poor social skills, terrible leadership abilities. This includes senior engineers, master engineers and managers. Excess of bureaucracy for developing software. Agile is a facade that everyone pretends that is working fine.

Cons

They don't tell u which department u will land up in. I was in A3. This was shared on the first day and highlighted again and again : Office times : 9:00-17:30 - including 2 x 15min breaks (morning/afternoon) and 30mins for lunch. If you are not in the office for any reason, you must notify your manager (XXXX XXXXX) by phone, as is company policy. Failure to do this is a disciplinary issue. Take down my number xxx xxxx xxx and save it in your phone. See the tone - this is a disciplinary issue. I guess they forgot this is not a factory anymore. Every engineer/colleague I spoke to said managers track what time they start day, how long they are away from desk and what time they leave. Some of them even join stand-ups. If u are 15min late, then u are taken into a room and told off. They even try to listen in on what u are talking to others. Some of the engineers say they feel as if managers have camera planted or they ask other managers to keep an eye on u. Most of them said, they would quit soon because of the managers. No one will complain about this to HR or in exit interview because they feel senior management expects this from their managers. Some of the managers are notoriously famous and not in a good way. Also, apparently it is very difficult to change teams and get into other department (unless managers wants u gone) or go against the wishes of ur manager. Unless u want to get in trouble. Managers are all powerful and have no clue about technology or people management. Thanks goodness I was with Ericsson-Athlone only for 2 months. Even in those 2 months I was taken into a room every week. My advice – Stay away. If not, make sure not to join A3.
