Pros
Total freedom to do whatever you want. I’ve worked in databases for 7 years and saw constant errors that nobody cared to fix. It was a free-for-all. People call it a “nice environment” but unless you act toxic and childish, you won’t experience that. It's what reddit users meme about "Adult Day Care".
Cons
I’m a “yes-person” because I signed a contract and always stuck to it. Based on smarter people who looked at it, I respected it while others didn’t. I genuinely like doing a lot of work, if there's people in the first place to do it with. Over the years the atmosphere became radicalized and unprofessional. This year was the last straw: they sent me to medical leave (I rarely take any—twice in 7 years), and they did it on my mother’s birthday despite knowing it. They could not communicate with the one person who always cooperated. They constantly boxed me in by gatekeeping what I could learn or take on. Similar ranking employees to my superiors told me they might have been afraid I would change the system. If that was true, it’s silly—see the “Pro” section above.
