Pros

You get out what you put in. I met some great people along the way and learned so much about myself, the military, nursing, politics. It's the people that kept me going. The military offers safety and security as it is a federal job. During furloughs and government shut downs, I was still getting paid.

Cons

Being medical in the military, you dont feel like you are apart of the mission. Upper management leadership does not listen to us or our middle management leadership. Upper management is so disconnected to what goes on in real-time so their expectations exceed reality. Such a high deployment rate. Many patients who came from smaller bases share that their experiences were better at the smaller med groups. The bigger the med group, the more lost your patients will feel. High turnover in the hospital, no incentives to stay. "Do more with less" mentality. Burnout. Low staffing.

Pros

Teaches you a trade while paying you. Social appreciation. Purpose. If you have no idea what you want to do with your life especially as far as a career goes, run to a recruiter. Regardless of whereever you come from a military career is your stepping stone into middle class and up living and career opportunity.

Cons

Every extra dollar you attempt to make beyond your rank will require more work than you will be paid to do. The real payoff monetarily you get from competing in the military will come in to play during your post life. Confidence, courage, accountability, etc are not standard attributes in people at all.
