Pros

Excellent benefits. Pay is very comparable, if not better than comparable civilian jobs. If you like to travel, this is the career for you. GI Bill will pay for school. Healthcare is excellent and covers 100% of ailments for you and family. Extra pay for overseas and high cost assignment areas. Extra pay during deployments, and tax free status if in war zones. This just scratches the surface... but the best personal benefit I receive is intangible; it's the opportunity to serve my country and gain that sense of personal pride and accomplishment that is priceless, without a doubt.

Cons

Frequent deployments will take you away from family for months at a time. Current deployment times are 6 to 12 months (minimum). The Air Force is currently going through a reduction in force which is eliminating 50% of personnel in some career fields, regardless of time in service.

Cons

Its hard to provide for a family when you don't get paid for overtime and you're basically living pay check to pay check due to bills
