Pros
I want to start by saying that I really did love my job at Sephora. Making the customers smile and talking with them about my favorite products was something that meant a lot to me. There are some very creative people who work for Sephora and it was fun getting to know them. Working for this company gave me exposure to products I probably wouldn't have had the chance to use otherwise and I definitely learned a lot from that.
Cons
Those who aim for longterm employment will need to engage successfully in social politics in order to be rewarded. Play your cards right and things will work out better for you than they did for me. Always be on guard and choose your words carefully because every bit of small talk will actually be a test. Each moment you are being judged. Many people aspire to work for Sephora and this leads to an intense vibe of competition that the managers love to feed into. The whole experience basically boiled down to one big mind game. I had my hopes built up and crushed so many times I nearly sacrificed my sanity. This is a company that can and will break your heart and your spirit if you let it. Bullying and catty behavior are prevalent for those who fail to build useful alliances with the right people early on. Those with quirky personalities or who do not fit "mainstream" conventions of beauty (a.k.a. black sheep) will struggle with this especially. Be careful what you share, and with whom. Bottom line, gain acceptance with the clique or prepare to be phased out. I was completely committed to my job at Sephora and being cut from the cast just for being a little different was a very painful experience for me.
