On call hours need to stop - Skincare Consultant/Cashwrap Coordinator Sephora Employee Review

Pros

gratis, creative environment, amazing co-workers

Cons

Being scheduled on-call hours meant that I had to set aside time to work for 37 hours per week (arrange/pay for child care), required to take a lunch with the presumption that I would be staying for a full day, but often got sent home after working only 5 hours. Sephora wants you to be available for full time hours at their convenience and only offers you part time hours most of the time. This means you can't even get a second job to supplement, because they MAY need you in case they have a good week. This does not lend well to the work life balance they tout as important.

Pros

fun getting gratis and hosting in-store events, meeting brand ambassadors/managers, socializing with clients

Cons

manager created a weird environment -- coaching moments were sometimes extremely aggressive for a retail environment; strict on not applying makeup to clients unless they purchase a service. once made me move from a disabled client quickly because I was "spending too much time with them" and to further boost the store sales. felt extremely unethical.
