Pros

Good benefits Friendly coworkers Chances for upward growth Focus on diversity and inclusion

Cons

No control over career path, company does not post any open jobs but rather assigns people to new roles when they see fit. Schlumberger treats suppliers poorly (i.e. deciding to suspend payments to achieve quarterly earning objectives), making certain jobs very difficult and sacrificing delivery and customer satisfaction. As managers move frequently (2-3 years is the typical tenure), many decisions made only look at short term (3-6 month) business implications, ignoring long term health of the company. Frequent lay-offs, leaving groups consistently short-staffed and over-worked. Risk-adverse to a fault. Tends only to hire fresh-out technical employees

Pros

Good people at the local level. The work is engaging and challenging.

Cons

Too many to count. Career advancements are extremely limited. Pay raises are minimal and don't get close to keeping up with inflation even for top performers. At the corporate level they are using acquisitions to hide massive layoffs. They return billions in profit to investors consistently, but there is still a constant threat of layoffs and multiyear freezes on pay raises even with inflation and solid corporate profit.
