Pros

Product Discounts, good health benefits, 401K 50% match, good experience on paper. A good "starter" job. Hourly job means reasonable work/life balance. Opportunities for increased responsibility, which looks good on a resume. Great product and systems training. Job is easy to understand. Great place to learn people skills. Great team to work with.

Cons

Increased responsibility does not generally come with increased pay. Compensation is mediocre for college-educated professionals in the Bay Area ($17-25/hr). An informal survey one year revealed that yearly raises ranged from $0.10/hour to a maximum of 3% among top performers. There is an increasing reliance on "leader" roles instead of managers, which allows them to provide lower pay to people who ought to be receiving more. A large number of employees are temps that have to wait 1-2 years to become full-time employees and receive benefits. The culture is very restrictive. You have to be "always on", not just to customers but to managers; cheerful, deferent, self-censoring. There is a constant fear of slipping up and being yourself in front of the wrong person. It's an emotionally exhausting place to work.
