Pros

- Provided you work for a good manager, getting promoted quickly is possible. - Most of my department was great to work with and for, especially my directors. - I got great hands-on problem solving experience which looks great on a resume but it was because there were so many fires being put out constantly.

Cons

First, the high turnover of executive/senior leadership is not a strong indicator that this company has a clear vision to anyone but the CEO himself. The excessive documentation, memos, and inconsistency between reporting stand in the way of actual work getting done due to arguments between management of different departments about who is more correct. The reason being promoted quickly is easy is due to the fact that there is so much turnover that if you stay beyond 1 year you are considered an “expert” in your role. Some people promoted to Management have no business being managers. Luckily, I was only stuck with a terrible manager for several months but in that time I sought professional psychiatric help because of how much stress she caused me. I did not consider Lidl a bad place to work until I had that manager and ultimately it pushed me to leave.

Pros

Benefits are excellent, most people at the peer level are great. Clear performance expectations. Decent cross functional communication

Cons

Company leadership very European and doesn't quite understand the American consumer even after being in the US so long. Unreasonable expectations are the norm. No upward mobility unless you are European or speak fluent German.
