Pros

work life balance, time flexibility

Cons

Tech at this place is such a sh*t show. Being such an old company everyone has realized they need to be tech forward to compete but LM is definitely behind on the game. That's why they poured so much money into ads over the last year. A catchy theme is trying to make them more relevant. As people, they do sort of support their NON diverse employees (especially parents so if you're white this is a solid gig). there's massive issue of communication between business and tech. Business usually prevails. Everything about this organization is so messy plus poorly managed acquisitions leave everyone in tech just feeling like they can't do their job as quickly as they're supposed to. Supposed to being the operative word because everything here is SLOWW. But business wants to pretend it can be fast? I will say that engineering there bc it is a well recognized looks good on a resume, but trust me you want to get what you need and go. People will resent you a little bit for leaving because there is such a theme of getting a job at LM and staying until you retire, so people get a little options if you demonstrate you have options. Especially if you're in the tech world YOU DO HAVE OPTIONS! If you feel the need to leave, trust yourself and go. This place is such a mess. Also their health insurance literally could not be worse!!! Also people coming from such small towns make them SOOO racist but it's kinda subtle. If it feels racist trust yourself. It's like almost impossible to get fired from this job so keep your sanity and just look for new opportunities instead of expecting the racist to be let go. Good luck and try your hardest to remember as an engineer you are so much better than this company!

Cons

Started my career at Liberty Mutual as a Workers' Compensation intern. In the beginning, everything was going well. The workload was demanding, but I genuinely enjoyed the job and the work I was doing. One year later, I got promoted to claim adjuster. Things changed after my manager was seriously injured in a car accident. The department director took over managing our team, and the work environment became completely different. She was extremely rude and practiced excessive micromanagement. She expected me not to take any PTO if my work wasn't completely finished, even when I needed time off because my grandmother had suddenly passed away. The constant pressure and lack of empathy took a serious toll on my mental health. I developed depression during that time and eventually had to seek help from a psychologist. In the end, I decided to leave Liberty Mutual. It was one of the best decisions I made for my well-being, and I would not consider returning to the company.
