Pros

401k, Healthcare offered, same as with most large companies.

Cons

As an employee for almost 10 years and working in several departments within Auto, Property, and Commercial lines.... I am here to tell you the Truth. Please don't fall for the fake reviews out there. Liberty Mutual is not the company it once was. Once they merged with Safeco, a few years later their entire philosophy and leadership focus changed. The "Pension" which was once defined benefit plan....yeah, that was trashed in favor of an awful Cash Balance plan that is not 1/2 as good as the former. Then, the VIP (bonus) and Merit increases were made to be nearly impossible. They accomplished this by utilizing a CSAT system that is designed to be much more difficult to attain your goals and get paid your bonus. As someone who sat in on meetings discussing these exact topics, I can confirm they do not care about the employees whatsoever. They use a "Performance Management" system to manage people out the door whom they don't like. LITERALLY. On top of this, top talent management left the company or retired in hoards as they were forced out and/or saw what changes were soon to come. Only Safeco managers got promotions while long-time upstanding Liberty Mutual employees were discriminated against, until they were either fired or encouraged to leave on their own accord. I personally witnessed crude humor and disgusting behavior from the Safeco managers who came over to Liberty Mutual. Ultimately I left because of this, and the fact that I advised upper management and nothing was done. Not surprised. I highly recommend looking elsewhere.

Good benefits. Generous 401k match

Cons

Started my career at Liberty Mutual as a Workers' Compensation intern. In the beginning, everything was going well. The workload was demanding, but I genuinely enjoyed the job and the work I was doing. One year later, I got promoted to claim adjuster. Things changed after my manager was seriously injured in a car accident. The department director took over managing our team, and the work environment became completely different. She was extremely rude and practiced excessive micromanagement. She expected me not to take any PTO if my work wasn't completely finished, even when I needed time off because my grandmother had suddenly passed away. The constant pressure and lack of empathy took a serious toll on my mental health. I developed depression during that time and eventually had to seek help from a psychologist. In the end, I decided to leave Liberty Mutual. It was one of the best decisions I made for my well-being, and I would not consider returning to the company.
