Pros
There are opportunities to move around and progress if you work in the restaurants. Apprenticeships are also a decent incentive for progression as thats how I progressed from Team members to ARGM.
Cons
Career progression and apprenticeship opportunities at KFC are definitely tick box exercises for numbers at times. The company directly owns only a small number of stores in the UK, and moving into a franchise role is often frustrating as franchise operations rarely maintain the same standards or values as the company-owned sites. Management styles feel stuck decades in the past, with little to no regard for work-life balance or employee wellbeing. Staff are treated as cheap, replaceable labour, and it quickly takes a toll on mental health. Favouritism and poor management behaviour are left unchecked, and there seems to be no real focus on fairness, ethics, or employee development. I’m now with an employer that values its people and recognises their contributions. My time at KFC was a harsh but valuable reminder of what toxic leadership looks like and what kind of manager I’ll never become.
