Pros
- World beating brand name to have on resume. - Company sponsorship of charitable activities (for e.g. once a year employees get to take a day off work and volunteer for a charity). - Fantastic upper level management - Depth of resources allowing you to do things which other companies might not be able to - Market leading position in most things - financial services and to a certain extent technology
Cons
- Very poor pay if not at top level, salaries are measurably lower (10-20%) than local non-for-profit organizations. Does not warrant comparison with other large for-profit organizations! - Little benefits (practically 0 dollars spent on leisure/entertainment even during festive periods) and tight training budgets - Some are too aggressively career lusting (one step too far from being career minded!) - Middle management tend to be a class below senior management, leading senior managers to say and promise but for middle management to fall short of expectations. This is especially damaging since to most employees, middle management IS the firm.
