Pros
The hours were great and when I left work for the day, my day ended when I left Carmax. The job was very easy for me and I excelled at it consistently. I always enjoyed working with my direct peers. We could always find a way to have fun at work in the buyers office, so much so that other departments would always flock to our office.
Cons
The culture changed so much over the last 5 years that all Carmax wants is robots. They do not care about the people that helped build the company to where it is today. They RIG the yearly gallup survey with an internal code so they can track your responses. This is how they are able to stay on the Fortune 100 best places to work. The reviews here are more accurate as I have also read them all. They have some major deceptive practices that I can't comment on the details being a former employee. As an employee of Carmax, I was trained and forced to defend these policies that were against our customers best interests. The micromanagement and disrespect of Senior Management are the reasons I left. They will talk about you in depth behind closed doors, so much so that you need to become close with a senior manager in another department to find out what is said about you.
