Pros

Financially stable company with long corporate history. Diverse international markets and product lines. Few significant competitors. Good benefits. Market average only pay for top professional types.

Cons

Company does not do as well financially when commodity and energy prices rise. Company has always been very frugal on spending, almost to a fault. Internal training and travel opportunities are limited even in good times. As it has grown larger, culture does not seem to care about its people anymore. Lot of experienced turnover in past five years. Newer people don't understand the business and don't seem to care to learn it. After a few years of below market raises, most top people move on.

Pros

Ecolab is a stable, growing, global company and leader worldwide in the industry -- our products are need and our market relatively stable. The culture is like a family and people who work here really care about the company. The CEO came in as a marketing professional and advanced to CEO -- he is friendly, thoughtful and approachable. He values the employees and their input. Its just a great place to feel like a person rather than a cog in a wheel.

Cons

There isn't really a central place where people come and go, so its not easy to network and meet people that you don't know. You have to hone your networking skills and make an effort to make that happen.

Pros

Opportunities for advancement do exist. It may be possible for a relatively junior employee to hold a position of above average responsibility. The company is a top performer financially - it's a great company to invest in. The company has a long history of success and offers stable employment. Despite being a bumbling idiot of a company, they continue to make money hand over fist. If they ever get it right, look out!

Cons

The company is sales focused and driven, manufacturing facilities and infrastructure are an afterthought. There is a huge disconnect between "the ivory tower" in St. Paul and the rest of the company. Compensation packages for professionals are typically below average. There is absolutely no HR function. There is a severe lack of organization, structure and control of the process. The manufacturing facilities are antiquated, filthy and run like Chinese sweat-shops. Morale is generally piss-poor, across multiple sites and several levels of responsibility. There are far too few people to accomplish the workload that exists, and new tasks and procedures keep cropping up with no additional resources given to complete them. Senior management is full of micro-managers that will not allow people to grow professionally.
