Pros

They provide a high level of responsibility to everyone; including the new grads which makes for a good resume building opportunity. Summer hours, free food once in a while. Work/life balance isn't bad at all; good for employees with families.

Cons

Fairly average employer with a very top heavy org structure. Leadership is very old school and made up of all old, white men. Serious lack of diversity and innovation runs throughout the organization. The overall culture is cold and dry where most people only care about how to advance their own agendas rather than how to build great service models to grow the company. Definitely a "me first" rather than a "we first" organization. Most head office employees are within the 40-60 age bracket with very little ambition or drive; complacency runs deep within this company. For the young, ambitious employees, they have to put their time in before they can move up even if they are better than the older, complacent employees. Compensation is around 30% below market. Promotions are based on politics and nepotism and you better know how to play the game in order to move up. Senior leadership only cares about the bottom line and short term results rather than building long term growth strategies. Also, the new grads (MITs) are considered company royalty and are treated better than any and all other employees within the company. Doesn't make much sense to me but then so do many other things at this company.

Pros

Zero hour contract allowed me flexibility but my hours were kept the same from 9am to 3pm every day of the week. It was a job that I did for 3 months or so during the summer holiday before I went back to university and let me earn a bit of money to fund my studies. Also, considering my age at the time I was paid the same as everyone else (£7.83 - national living wage) which I was happy about. My supervisor was friendly and treated me well.

Cons

Sexual harassment in the workplace with the men targeting younger women (just the chefs) with inappropriate remarks and even questions about personal details with no consequences for their actions. The job is bad if you do it full - time and you get told what to do. Also, the tasks get repetitive and you start to not enjoy it at all. For example, manually counting stock, refilling the fridge with drinks, making sandwiches and helping with plate wash during busy hours.

Pros

Had a good group of people working with me

Cons

The manager and up treated us awfully. Constantly tried to under pay us (I managed to get my money, but one girl got forced into a managerial position and when she quit they refused to pay her over £400. A second girl had to fight to get maternity pay after being promised it, she still hasn't received it) and questioned every minute we worked over scheduled hours. I was constantly made to work on my own from 8am to past 6pm with no breaks. The manager would ask for our availability and for some reason only schedule us on the days we couldn't work. Constantly tried bullying people into doing things they weren't comfortable with until they quit. There was black mould growing in the fridges, weeks after I brought it to the managers attention. When I went to quit, I checked again and there was still black mould. Issues brought up were ever sorted just ignored or they tried to bully you into giving up. This is only the stuff I can remember off the top of my head. Do NOT work for this awful company
