Pros

It has been a steady company with good benefits. Where once you had to move a lot to advance, some departments have become more flexible in where you live and work. What's in the future post-sale is hard to say.

Cons

Virtual workplace is unevenly available. I could work from anywhere, but my dept is not comfortable with remote employees. The impending sale has caused some 'leaders' to check out and spend more time lobbying for their own jobs than leading their employees through the uncertainty. It appears some key benefits will be eliminated.

Pros

Before a "reorg" of the claims department, this was one of the better companies to work for if you were in the claims department. They cut loose some long-time, loyal quality employees in their move to provide Chevrolet service at Cadillac rates. The underwriting philosophy is still pretty solid, though, and it is a company that you can feel confident will still be around in 20 years.

Cons

Upper management are bean counters without souls. They seriously do not care about the people who work for them.

Cons

Prior to 2002 there always was a Chubb family member involved in the company and employees were respected and supported. They brought in a finance guy to run the company and ever since it's been numbers, numbers, numbers. Keeping the stock price up is paramount and employees are treated as second-class. Chubb used to be different than all the other insurance companies (ask anyone who has been in the business more than ten years) but now they are like all the others;
