Pros

I was employed at the end of another large household name scale up and there are some parallels for sure, these are definitely exciting times. For me, this is an exciting time as the flexibility to learn and be part of shaping things is still there to be had and there is a real feeling of focus and strategy to help point you in the right direction. Onboarding, from the interview through to the actual start of employment, is probably the best I have ever had. Checkout are setting you up to succeed and they want you to, it will be mutually beneficial. The people I have encountered at the company, so far are brimmimg with excitement, helpfulness and are knowledgeable. Also, due to various circumstances, I have had to move my start date multiple times and this has always been dealt with without any concern or seeming like it was an issue.

Cons

No cons as of yet. I am sure there will be some, nothing is perfect but, for now, I feel all of the advantages will outweigh any cons.

Pros

- Interesting tech stack - Engineering teams are relatively free to choose the tools that they use - Good opportunities for career development - Good but not market leading package overall - Great work life balance

Cons

- Commercial sells features before they are ready or even built & promises delivery dates without involving the actual engineers who will build stuff - London office doesn't have any food in it other than nuts 🥲 - Good senior people have been replaced by external candidates multiple times - Executives are seemingly getting more disconnected from employees as the company grows - Complete inflexibility about 'flexible' working arrangements, if you can't do the mandated days then you have to leave - Spent 1 year being extremely vague about what the return to the office would look like and then implemented a company wide policy that not many people wanted

Dear colleague, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on your experience with us over the past few years. It's so good to see you've enjoyed opportunities for career development and experienced a good work life balance during your time with us. And, we want to acknowledge the frustrations you’ve shared. At Checkout.com we will soon be moving to a hybrid way of working, where most of our teams split their time working between the office and home. And you’re right, we’ve allocated days for departments to promote collaboration across our teams and help us capacity plan. We also have people who are in fully remote roles, and there will be exceptions for fully remote working options. While we’ve tried to keep communication on this topic as open and transparent as possible, it’s clear we need to improve here. We, too, are navigating uncharted waters, trying new things and are learning as we go, so thank you for your feedback. Mostly though, we can’t wait to get our colleagues back together and are looking forward to welcoming our people back to our offices over the coming months. Thank you for going into such detail with your feedback; we take your comments about the other elements of your experience seriously and have shared these with the relevant teams. We wish you all the best and if there's anything else you'd like to add or share, please feel free to email people.acquisition@checkout.com. Thanks again, Kerry (Chief People Officer)

Hey,

Thanks for taking the time to write us an honest review.

We love to see that your were feeling challenged in your work by the cutting-edge technologies we use and the problems we’re solving.
That being said, we also want to discuss the points you raised where we can improve.

As the company scales, it’s a major priority for us to stay lean and not create unnecessary red tape. We believe the best way to do this is by communicating clearly the company goals and curating a culture of autonomy and inclusion.

We’re also investing heavily in manager training to ensure our people get the trust and freedom they need to excel at their job.

It’s clear from your review that this was not the case for you and we’re truly sorry about that. In order for us to improve on this, we want to invite you to share any additional information with us at people.culture@checkout.com, so we can look into what went wrong.

 Thanks again,

The People Team
