Good place to start but don't plan on staying here too long

Pros

Good brand name. Known to be the best in the heavy equipment industry, although heavy equipment industry has not had any breakthroughs for decades.

Cons

promotions are not merit based. Accountability is just a word, not something that is followed. Even if the manager made a bad decision they are not held responsible but rather promoted! Very discouraging to see that at the workplace. Many of the managers are not willing to listen to the flaws of the company that cause the current problems but continue to ignore the problems. Depending on which part of Caterpillar you are working in, you will get more opportunities than others. The Culture fosters all of the wrong behavior and leads to more problems.

Pros

Caterpillar India is one of the fastest growing companies and is probably the best place for Mechanical Engineers to work. Its integrated culture helps you to get in touch with the top management and work with people from diverse background and hence its a learning experience every moment.

Cons

The factory being located in Chennai, most of the employees speak in vernacular language i.e. Tamil and hence it creates hurdles in effective communication with the operators on the shop floor, which ultimately results in delays in execution of your ideas sometimes.

-The team you work with is excellent -The pay is good for the location, as are the bonuses and raises -Cat is a top company and is a place people are proud to work at

Cons

-You can be treated like a number due to organization size depending where/what you work in -Hours can be strenuous depending on business needs
