      Impossible to advance unless you play the game

      Pros

      When they do what they do best there's nobody better. Benefits are excellent. There are still people there who care about the journalism.

      Cons

      Too much airtime is devoted to junk and silliness. Promotions are doled out based on managers' favoritism and have nothing to do with job performance.

      Pros

      Great 401k matching. Tons of paid time off. Intelligent co-workers Free parking.

      Cons

      Total lack of support for employees. Continual punitive actions for not providing 110% accuracy. If you make a mistake caused by another, you get nailed. Atmosphere of fear is the norm. Insane scheduling. A toxic, corporate work environment.

      Pros

      I like the recent focus on politics. The website is one of the top two or three news sites (in terms of traffic) anywhere. Cable news--for better or for worse--isn't going anywhere as a primary news source for many Americans, and that means a lot in terms of job security when newspapers are going belly-up left and right. And there are plenty of really good people working here.

      Cons

      It's a bureaucracy. One hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Getting vacation/expenses etc. is like going to the DMV on a bad day. A lot of the editorial ideas are extemely gimmicky and obviously came from a bunch of suits sitting around in a board room.
