Pros

ByteDance is known for its relatively attractive salary offerings. The company recognizes the value of its employees and compensates them accordingly, which is a significant factor in attracting top talent from around the world. This financial incentive is particularly appealing to those who are seeking to maximize their earning potential in the fast-paced tech industry.

Cons

However, the flip side of this coin is the company's demanding work culture, characterized by extensive overtime expectations. The "996" schedule—working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week—is a known practice, which can take a toll on employees' personal lives and overall well-being. Additionally, ByteDance has been criticized for its frequent layoffs, contributing to a sense of job insecurity among staff. This high turnover rate can disrupt team dynamics and hinder long-term planning and development. Lastly, the team instability is a notable concern. The rapid growth of the company has led to a fast-paced environment where employees may not have the opportunity to form stable, lasting professional relationships with their colleagues. This can affect team cohesion and the overall work experience.

Pros

- Flexible working environment - Good remuneration and benefits

Cons

- Worst finance function ever seen. Accounting systems are developed in-house and are plain stupid. Run away if your role requires financial information. - Interaction with China counterparts (where the leadership roles predominantly are) is a massive pain. They think China is the world and does not trust your local expertise, and expect lots of reworking and re-answering questions which were already addressed previously.

Pros

The salary was not bad and there were lots of opportunities for travel so I did enjoy that. In terms of personal growth, I met a lot of personalities and learned how to navigate cultural differences with a lot of success. However, I didn’t learn any new hard skills. The tools we used were internally developed and not used in other companies so I can’t even say it’ll help me in my next job.

Cons

1. Very very political. It’s all about who you know. It gets very tiring and stressful playing office politics. 2. Unrealistic expectations. Wants everything to be measurable and show improvement within a short period of time when the company doesn’t even have the appropriate tools to accurately measure anythings 3. If your leader is based in CN and you have to work with colleagues there, it’ll be very hard. They say they’ll accommodate your time zone but they’ll only try once or twice then default make to what is convenient for them so it means late nights for those working outside of their time zone. 4. Documentation Sucks. Enough said.
