Pros

Good company to work for if you want to get into the finance sector, relaxed culture free snacks and drinks provided in all their offices

Cons

Flat structure so promotion is not necessary a great thing, in house training can be poor when provided by someone who just wants to hit their agreed personal target on the hope of getting a non existent pay increase.

Pros

Work-life balance is good (though this mostly depends on your immediate boss). Good snacks. If you are working for a financial group within the company, you will develop good domain knowledge. Software is the heart of the company, and upper management has finally realized this and is investing more in its code base.

Cons

Some of the code base is still very old (Fortran). Some managers have been known to really squeeze out the life blood from their employees, though this has gotten better as there is alot more competition in new york from google, facebook, and other financial institutions.

extensive training prepared me for full-time software development despite having a bio degree in undergrad, access to the Bloomberg Terminal, finance training which smooths pivot to many other functions/industries

Cons

some of the code base is really old, the company is mature and promotion/compensation structure is neither guaranteed nor transparent
