      Micro Management and Extreme Localization

      The management in Asia is too localized it doesn’t even feel like working for a US based company. Too much micro management and unfair treatment towards their employees. Your opinions and voices are unheard and get shut down immediately. There is no such thing as logical reasoning behind every “No”s and demands. Unless this type of middle management gets improved, it will be very hard to say that there is a flexible and consistent Bloomberg culture across ALL offices. They need to realize keeping their current employees happy is the real way to save costs, not replacing them.

      none, really. There were a few good people but they were being heavily taken advantage of to make managers look good.

      Cons

      Mismanagement and incompetent people rising in the company. Toxic culture. Disgusted with what I saw. Best decision was to leave.

      The Bloomberg Way is the Only Way

      Pros

      The most beautiful office you'll ever see, with free health care, smart people, and a very collaborative and friendly environment.

      Cons

      Expect to work with very old code (20-25 years, including Fortran) written in very old C++. As a first job it's a good resume builder, but get out after a few years as you'll learn nothing marketable. The company has a philosophy of "testing in production" so expect to get called in the middle of the night. The corporate culture is strong so you'll either fit in or get expelled. Be prepared to Drink the Kool-Aid. Don't bother applying if older than 35. During my time I saw no one hired with significant (> 10 years) software development experience.
