      Pros

      Barclays trading floor is just like the trading floor of any other investment bank. If that is where you belong, then Barclays could be a good company to work for.

      Cons

      You do not receive much support as you try to find a desk that is willing to hire you. Network and work those connections to get hired by a desk.

      Was a nice place to work

      Pros

      BGI was a nice place to work (it has now been taken over by BlackRock). There was a good work/life balance culture and decent compensation and benefits package.

      Cons

      There were people there who didn't do very much but still got paid well. Basically they rewarded tenure as much as they rewarded performance. Also lots of politics need to be played to advance your career.

      Pros

      Competitive pay and benefits, good team ethic, knowledgeable staff. Management willing to listen reasonable to career development requests. Scope for internal movement.

      Cons

      Inexperienced middle management can cause unnecessary tension and office politics. From an software development perspective there's a lot of red tape surrounding releases and little scope to use bleeding edge technologies (although both of these are to be expected at a bank).
