Pros

Used to be a well run and friendly company to work for.

Cons

No longer a friendly company to work for and doesn't value employees much. Raises are horrible and health care costs still rise even when jumping through wellness program hoops.

Pros

- language courses - training - work from home - annual bonus - multi-cultural environment - though the city is ugly (except for one or two spots), it is a safe place to live

Cons

Keep in mind that before you accept the job or think to move to Poland that there will be few points you should take into consideration. I've tried to list some of them below. I'm highlighting also the city because it's a very important aspect when you live and work in a place. And I'm so sorry if the text should contain a lot of negative and "heavy" point of views, but the opinions below are based on my experience living in Bydgoszcz for few years. - The location: Bydgoszcz is a city with a lot of (I should say the majority) closed mind people. You will hear things like "you are in Poland so you must speak Polish" (I've heard that from the labor doctor on my first week in Poland). Most part of people don't speak English. The services (like in the whole country with maybe few exceptions) are extremely slow. The services will be closed 30-40 minutes before the stores advertise. There are no 24 hours supermarket. Only gas stations, gyms, and "Monopolowy" (a place where you can buy alcohol and cigarettes mainly). If you're not Polish, be ready to be criticized...even for no reason (or maybe the only reason is the fact you exist). People there will hate you just for the fact you're different. People there are very pessimist, envy, and hate the fact you're having fun (maybe that's the reason they are so quiet in restaurants even when they are hanging out in couple). - The company: You will meet up a lot of people with lack of self-confidence (or I should say no self-confidence at all). But because they are friends (in a community that I call the "Polish mafia") they are promoted to higher positions based on the friendship only and not on the merits. As a result, there are plenty of examples where the employee got graduated one year, got his first job next year in Atos Bydgoszcz, and on the second year he/she is promoted for a managerial position. That means the team managers don't have skills to deal with the ongoing situations, for instance, that involve conflicts. By the way, don't expect a Polish person come to you and say face-to-face there is something wrong with your attitudes and that some things are not getting along well. Instead, they will come back home thinking about you or even stubbing your back to the other colleagues. And guess what? Yes, the managers are specialist doing that (and why would they be different if they are part of the same society described above?). So get ready for gossips coming from the top part of the pyramid. - The salaries paid in Bydgoszcz are usually below the salaries paid in other cities like Warsaw, Wroclaw, Cracow, and Gdansk. Negotiate it pretty well during the interviews because I've seen pay raise (real ones, not small corrections) only when the employees give the resignation letters. Moreover, the city is getting more and more expensive and you will hear things like "have you seen the cost of living in Warsaw?" As a matter of facts, the rentals in other cities such as Warsaw and Cracow (very international city by the way) are more expensive in average still. The new refectory is now cosy but the food is always crappy. There is no other restaurants because the Business Park's (where the complex of buildings are located in) owner doesn't let anyone coming in to avoid the competition (it's a kind of communist times where the market had no competition). In general, I would never recommend someone to live in Bydgoszcz (especially if you come from a "warmer" country). It's a place where you don't feel welcome anytime.
