Pros

Depending on position in company generally a good work life balance. Ability to work from home although due to technical access for certain accounts this is reducing.

Cons

A number of the people managers are egotistic bullies who are rewarded because the company wants the job done and will turn a blind eye to how they get there. Clinical stress is ignored in the hope the employees will give up and leave of their own accord. Real talent and experience is often ignored because the managers see their staff as a threat or they have another game plan. The office is desperately quiet, no atmosphere as people are scared of saying the wrong thing.

Pros

Working on the BBC Account, the teams work very hard, and almost everyone gets along. A lot of the BBC Account have been doing their roles, or worked with the same team, since the days that they were working under Siemens or BBC Technology. Overall most people are very loyal to the account, and want to do their best. The account I work on is great, and I am happy to work with the dedicated people here, it is just a shame about the cons below, which sometimes make it feel like you are bashing your head against a wall covered in spikes, and each spike is tipped with a dozen smaller spikes, all of which are dipped in vinegar.

Cons

Dealing with the local upper management (the ones working within the direct area, and who have a hand in the day to day running of the account) is fine. The issues start when you are dealing with people from outside the BBC Account who are covering for people, or have been delegated random duties. The biggest issue is the Global Management. Their thinking does not appear to be linked up, and from what I have seen and heard, borders on being almost random. Global Management like to micromanage some of the decisions that would be better suited to lower levels. For example, all recruitment has to be approved at a Global level, this isn't just for creating new roles, but for the recruitment of internal and external roles as well. The process for this is ludicrously slow, and can cripple departments easily. The recruitment system can feel like a carrot and a stick situation, and no one can tell you how long the stick is. it can be months of waiting only to be told no. The people making these decisions have no visibility of the what the team does, the skills that are required, and have in all likelihood, never visited the site. Similar issues also arise with procurement. If you mis-time your order, suppliers can find that their payment will be delayed until the next quarter to better fit with Atos' finances. This can lead to embarrassment and awkward conversations with suppliers you might depend on to deliver services and good will from time to time.

Pros

-Company is very good about paying for your certifications. - Plenty of vacation time given - HR is responsive when problems arise.

Cons

- Below average pay for the work we did. - Inexperienced manager who placed neophyte members of the team as leads over people with 10-20 years of IT knowledge. Because of the lack of experience in lead positions, projects were late and numerous network outages occurred while I was there. - Manager alienated his team due to him constantly making poor decisions. One bad decision was hiring guys with no IT experience who used to worked in fast food restaurants. - Manager stayed in his office for most of the day and never had a pulse on what was happening with his team. -Instead of promoting from within, management would find someone from different satellite data centers around the country.
