Pros

Better hours than Big4, fair market pay, great people, nice summer and winter seasons, good office location, good parties, and accelerated title promotion.

Cons

They are deeply understaffed and tend to hand you hundreds of tax returns and insurmountable amount of admin, then make you feel stupid on every mistake which are inevitable in these circumstances. Turnover is sky rocketing there, people last 1-2 years, burn out, and leave. Many partners see people as body coverage, not human beings. Also, I really disliked favoritism in the office, like they will disregard negligence/laziness of certain managers and directors and will promote them to partners regardless lack of qualification and multiple complains of the personnel. Finally, there is no remote or flexible work opportunities. You have to come to the office two or three times a week.

Pros

Boston is cool, I guess.

Cons

Reminiscing with a former employee and remembered about one of their practices, in the Boston office. They used to make us parade around the office with a notebook in hand, physically checking in with all of the seniors and managers, before we were allowed to leave for the day. I’m watching The Vow now and this reminds me of the sex slaves asking for permission to do things. I frequently bring up experiences from working here at my job now and it’s like a moment where you’re sitting around the campfire sharing horror stories. People are genuinely shocked. The office was also super homogenous when I was there. Totally white. To the point that one time a group of employees was making fun of another culture’s cuisine in the elevator, like a cackling group of 12 year old girls, racist 12 year old girls. It bewilders me how that environment existed in boston of all places. Maybe it’s changed, but I’ve heard it has not.

Pros

Competitive salary, respectful employees, McLean's office had incredible leaders who care about their employees' growth, great benefits

Cons

Management continued to move the goal post for my promotion to manager and couldn't give me feedback to get to the next step. I also had two bosses that were on very different pages regarding my promotion; one advocated for me and one not. In addition to my role, I took over a Manager's position when she left without a title change or pay bump. It took them a full year to hire a new Manager and they had me, a Senior Associate, lead her training and determine career goals for her. I also heard my boss say many things that violated discrimination laws including "what's their demographic?" when asking about a candidate.
