Pros

Public accounting experience that you can put on your resume.

Cons

Favoritism. Low pay. Toxic environment. No work-life balance. Bonus is a joke.

Pros

Good experience to use as a stepping stone, Free water & sodas in the fridge, decent benefits

Cons

Absolutely ZERO work-life balance. You're working 24/7, especially during "busy" season which is essentially half of the year. No training and/or development what-so-ever. Office culture was always very negative.

Pros

Great clients. If the client is yours, you get to do everything, personal tax returns, business tax returns, estate and gift, etc. Pay is competitive and hours are reasonable.

Cons

I came in as a Director several years ago. No one was friendly, they went out of their way to be difficult and isolate me. I had inadequate staffing help because the staffing director was antagonistic towards me. Top management actually bought into the same behavior. I can't remember one full day that I felt truly comfortable and I left after being treated like a stranger for too long. Let me be clear - I don't need people to be my best friend, but if I say Good Morning, I expect a return greeting. Particularly upsetting was that my mother died when I worked there. From the two Managing Directors I reported to, I received an email and a voice mail. Some people said nothing to me, two weeks later were tearing me down. This was not just my experience. Other newcomers were treated the same. I can quote a colleague, "The NY office does not function like a firm, it's partners that share office space." A friend of a friend recently worked there as a Manager and hated it. I think he stuck it out two years.
