A few colorful ways to describe AlphaSights:
- A legitimate but pyramid shaped corporate structure
- A glorified call center with bs promises for on target earnings
- A sweat-shop for high achieving social sciences majors from top universities with NO work life balance and little WFH flexibility
- A hot bed for micro-management with daily 8AM attendance meetings, weekly performance reviews, and more Performance Improvement Plans executed than grains of sand on a beach.
- Adult pre-school where 30 something VPs wage psychological warfare on anxious 20-somethings to profit from their work.
- A fluorescent lighting hellscape with undertones of racism and homophobia and observed sleezyness from senior leaders towards younger women.
If you're considering AlphaSights - don't, it will set back your career. The ENS industry is so niche that there isn't a clear pivot and I've seen many people go through long periods of unemployment or have to take a step back in their career after even a few years of experience at AlphaSights.
Some other ideas:
- If you're interested in sales / customers success, go get a SaaS Sales Development Representative job and advance from there.
- If you want to do marketing, apply for an intro role at an agency or in house at a larger company.
- If you're interested in consulting, just study for the cases and do consulting.
- If you're interested in investment, then do IB for a few years and pivot to PE or a Hedge Fund from there.
- If you want to get an MBA, JD, or MD, study for the tests senior year and go straight out.
Trust me, I worked at AlphaSights for 3 years and the second I stopped drinking the Kool-Aid and stood up for my own work-life balance and mental health, I was pushed deemed expendable and pushed out.
A good question to ask in interviews - what percentage of the starting class still works at AlphaSights 1 year into the role?
