Pros

Some people- through professionals, good benefits, good salary, proximity to south bay, well connected to major cities. home of former blockbuster heart stent (xience)

Cons

Too many to list- some important ones; 1. Occupational health hazards- ergonomic injuries hushed up for years due to constantly demanding and leadership lacking professionals in management levels, surprized that CA health authorities have not taken notice 2. No pipeline. Risky business proposition product- with all eggs in one basket which is very likely to fail 3. Undeserving promotions (only 2 qualifications needed- lack of brain cells and ability to play golf or watch 49er games with management) 4. No accountability- when best employees were leaving and atmosphere was created to drive away the 'smart' folks- senior management cheered! 5. Absolute lack of ethics, morals and standards for >50% of employees. 6. Job descriptions; 80% time making stupid power point slides to make manager look good infront of senior management/important audience and explain to him and reherse with him the content(Must do- non negotiable); 15% some actual scientific work (optional), 5% push paper with blind eyes- required. You will loose your skills very fast and become Abbotized and no one will want you anyway then

Pros

Great products and generally a good work environment. Lots of people in middle and lower management trying to do the right things and bring forward innovative solutions. Good pay and benefits.

Cons

Abbott Molecular started off with great potential but I believe missed it's window of opportunity to be great. Senior Management is too removed from the day to day realities of what is needed to be successful and is not seriously open to real change beyond going through the motions. Too many people with too much of the Abbott Diagnostics approach to business in a rapidly evolving and very technical market that demands strategic thinking and innovation. There are way too many Directors that are simply checking off boxes demonstrating they accomplished a task without looking forward and backward to determine if the task was effective or not or coloring outside of the lines to approach things in a novel and more effective and strategic manner. Peter Principal is rampant at both Abbott Molecular and Abbott Diagnostics and will be very difficult to change. Innovation comes only through projects that are easy and drop in their laps while those that take risks and are innovative are often left to hang on their own with little support. Many training programs introduced each year that repeat similar topics from the prior year that were not followed up on but rather approached as a check off the box.
