Pros

Very friendly work environment; everyone is willing to help and assist in any way possible. I had a very easy time getting started in the company, as well as some excellent mentors and supervisors that I was able to complete my projects with. Overall, the experience was great, and I would definitely return again.

Cons

The Abbott Diabetes Care division of Abbott Labs is still reasonably small. It's also relatively new, making the environment very start-up oriented. There are not too many downsides, although pay could possibly be higher. Also, conflicts with QA/QC regulations may occur, depending on what department you may be working in.

Pros

The main reasons why I worked for Abbott was because of the compensation packages for new graduates. This was exceptionally higher than what other companies were paying for new graduates with little or no experience in the pharma field. Prior to working for Abbott, I was employeed with Ernst & Young

Cons

Lack of managerial positions available for growth. Most of the senior finance positions availble are out of reach to employees unless further qualifications are pursued and the position is vacant from turnover. An example of a further qualification is an MBA and a CPA (Certifieid Public Accountant) in addition to a Chartered Accoutant (CA) designation.

Pros

Abbott is an employer that values its workers, patients, and stakehodlers it serves. At the undegraduate and graduate level, Abbott has management development programs in the ares of HR, Finance, Marketing, Science, and research. While it is hard to generalize about Abbott, due to its size, I would say that most individuals are go getters. We have many individuals with Top 20 MBAs all over the company. Abbott's diverse businesses do give ample opportunity for career movement. Also, opportunities working abroad are available.

Cons

If its size is a plus, it can be a downside too. Many times it is hard to get things done with multiple layers. However, Abbott does realize this and attempts to eliminate red tape. It is a far commute from Chicago if you live in the city. Pay is not on scale with other pharma or companies in the Northern Burbs considerdering its great benefits package and overall benefits
