Pros

AIG provides a good work/life balance, a steep learning curve, and more than enough access to continuing education. The workload is high, but the work is more interesting than at other insurers.

Cons

Unfortunately, AIG pays below industry average. In addition, the management structure is extremely flat and governed by an archaic set of rules for advancement. Each division has a lack of managerial support, highlighted by the fact that many in senior roles are coasting to retirement.

Pros

Ability to gain critical knowledge and licensing to use as lever to gain employment with better company.

Cons

Very poor management. Managers perspective is to look down on general employee's and fail to understand how to provide good customer service resulting in incorporating methods that only agitate customers. management also has the "good-ole-boy" attitude when promotional opportunities are posted. To the point as where if the people they want to select do not submit for the job the job will mysteriously be pulled from the active postings.

Pros

It's growth in the marketplace, it's competetiveness with other companies, it's relationships with the brokers

Cons

The salaries are not competitive, they favor hiring kids straight from college for higher position versus promoting from within. They frown upon employees using their sick time, even though they give us 8 days of it a year, we have a VP in client services who is fantatical to the point of bullying/harrassment in his attempts for us to be healthier as a means to not call in sick. We have managers who try to make us give them reasons we are using sick days.
