Pros

They pay well if you can cut a good deal up front but once you're in all bets are off.

Cons

They will drain your soul and crush your spirit and then drop you like you never existed. I have never, in my thirty years in the industry, witnessed such a lack of loyalty and appreciation.

Very Unethical company

Pros

Theoretical limitless income potential. Ability to set your own schedule.

Cons

Many pointless meetings with management. The sales mentality is back in the '80's. Very narrow minded in their financial products, they push annuities above all else even with the new limitations by finra on annuity sales! They expect you to "find a way" to make your compliance sheet "justify" an overload of annuities in the clients portfolio. If you are terminated, they try to force you out rather than pay unemployment benefits. The managers get a "reward" if they dont fire and force you to quit. Clients are very unhappy with VALIC so its an uphill battle to write new business within your book which is where they want you to focus.

Pros

Compensation is good, 401K match is good, lots of vacation time, relatively intelligent staff, Brand is gaining respect, Charismatic, driven and smart CEO

Cons

Everyone works hard - but leadership mandates 20% of people get a bad rating so the culture is super competitive. Rather than teamwork, people just stab you in the back all the time. They take credit for your good work and call your manager on any minor mistakes. It is a corrupt, cancerous place. Managers don't know how to manage. Add on continued restructuring and lay-offs - and a fantastic CEO who is irreplaceable and about to retire - and it is not a healthy climate nor does it have a good future. The Property Casualty dept which is huge component of AIG's business is not doing well. Steer clear.
