Do an assesment from the get go. We may have 50 people doing this but we would rather waste your time, than use ours. We actively hate diversity of thought, and we need people who will do EXACTLY what they are told, when they are told, how they are told. ( is what im reading in between the lines). We dont need people to think, just do.
They give you a case study and then they ask you how will you do that? They just want to see how you approach the problem and your technical knowledge.
