Applied online and received an email the same night asking me to come in for an interview. I answered the email the next day and was very excited to meet the Customer Service Manager. When I arrived for the interview, the customer service manager was filling in for a short-staffed desk. I was asked to take a look around and did exactly that. After I had walked around the retail store numerous times, I decided to return to the check-out counter. The person interviewing me was still helping customers. I was asked to fill-out an application and sign a release to perform a background check. The interview took place right there at the service counter with other employees listening in and walking around. Very unprofessional. This should have been a sign of things to come. I had a very pleasant experience, despite the numerous distractions and unprofessional interview location. The CSM was very friendly and explained the hiring process. After we had a conversational-style interview, I was on my way, feeling very good about my performance. I followed up with an email and received a response within two hours that I would be meeting with the sales manager. The sales manager sent me an email around 10pm that same evening asking me to come in for the second interview. I arrived and proceeded with the interview, which was a little more private. It lasted all of 20 mins and he was sending nothing but positive vibes. He even explained that he would be in touch to schedule a skills test the following week. I followed up with an email the next day. No response, which was expected. A week later, I sent another email asking if I was still being considered for the position. No response. Another week later, I sent an email, this time to the CSM, basically asking if they had selected a candidate and if not I was still very interested in the position. Still no response. I found this extremely unprofessional and thought that after two interviews a "No thank you" would be in order. But not at Univar. They showed an overwhelming interest in me, until for an unknown reason, I never heard another word. In the end, I am pleased to not have been offered the job, because I would hate to see how they treat employees when they are signing your check. Just be ready for a VERY unprofessional interview process.
