I applied online. I interviewed at Uber (Amsterdam) in Jan 2016
Interview
I applied online and contacted by a technical recruiter. After initial phone screen I was set up to talk with the hiring manager. After that they wanted to move forward with the process and gave me an iOS project challenge to complete within 10 days. I implemented the challenge, delivered great code with comments, wrote test cases and even had time to design UX.
This was 2 months ago...
I haven't received ANY feedback or ANY response on the project despite requesting a status from the recruiter several times withing those 2 months.
I don't mind if the project potentially wasn't good for them. I do care when they don't even let the candidate know. They just disappeared. That's very bad and truly incompetent! I wouldn't recommend to anyone applying for an engineering position at Uber in the Netherlands
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Uber (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2014
Interview
I had full day, back-to-back interviews, and a follow up interview a couple of days later. Most of the interviews were technical, focusing on Data Structure, OO Design, and a sample app. There was also a product question ,asking about things I could do to make the Uber app better. The people interviewing grilled me pretty well, and I think i didn't do too strongly on OO design, so they had me come back again and asked some more questions to make sure I knew my stuff. Make sure to come prepared, and make sure to answer questions while confident and thinking clearly and outloud.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I won't go into the detail of the question, but the data structure questions are pretty difficult, so make sure to think through the problem, study your basic data structs, run-time complexities, etc .

Interview
The interview was great. They covered CS fundamentals (OO, Data Structures, Algorithms) as well as an in house coding project and whiteboard coding. They also asked about my own experiences to see if I am a fit for the company.
