The navy is always looking for QUALIFIED applicants. If you don't fit their mold they will move on to the next person. They do not admit it but it is a step sale where you must be qualified mentally morally and physically, pass the Enlisted Screening Test, pass the ASVAB, Pass the physical and be prepared to pick any job that is available. It all depends on the knowledge of the recruiter to be able to get a heads up on what your career will be like for the next at least 4 years. It is a great opportunity and it all depends on the recruiter whether they are going to be Human Resource type of recruiter or a "fleet" recruiter.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at US Navy (Westminster, MD) in Feb 2009
Interview
It will be the most indepth interview you ever get. It will start with simple information at first. Then you need to fill out a security clearance covering 10 years of your, medicat screening that will go from head to toe.
I applied through other source. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at US Navy (Tampa, FL)
Interview
Depends on the job you want. Some officer jobs are easier to get than others. SEAL and NUKEs right now are very competitive. Also have large retention bonuses.
