I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at US Air Force (Warner Robins, GA) in Jan 2014
Interview
There wasn't much of an interview process at all. I'll preface by saying that I was a new graduate of my BSEE and MSEE. They pretty much make decisions based off your resume. You get updates saying you 'passed' certain rounds of the hiring process. eventually I got an email from someone explaining the type of work they do. He then asked if I would be interested in this type of work.
Interviewer asked about schooling and relevant coursework, then started to ask about personal experience. After describing the various classes and how they will help with the position, and how the work experiences help prepare me for the position, I was offered the position.

I applied through other source. I interviewed at US Air Force (Las Vegas, NV) in Mar 2019
Interview
No technical questions. They are so below the free market in salary and the clearance process takes so long, they are basically taking anyone with a pulse and a degree. Questions revolved around what I do for fun and typical "Do you play well with others", etc. They described the job, in my case, system engineering. I was offered a job inside 20 minutes.

Interview
I had approximately five interviews for my current position. Two phone interviews. In person interview with the supervisor, then a interview with the team leads, the finally was asked to do a presentation on my research. The interview consisted of many technical, personality and personal questions. They are assuring that you have the technical understanding and that you will be a good fit for the position.
