I applied in-person. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Jacksonville, IL) in Jan 2012
Interview
Application was filed on computer. I answered all questions truthfully. I kept the application up to date and didn't hear from them. While in the store, an associate told me that I should call HR. I did and was told to go into the store and get face to face with the store manager. He wanted to hire me on the spot, I followed up with an 'interview' on the phone with a corporate representative. Didn't hear anything again so I went back to the store, the manager made a call, I had an interview in the store the next day and was immediately hired. I don't have much faith in the computer application process.

In my phone interview I was asked to "give an example of a time that you have given excellent customer service, and it must be a precise, detailed example."
Filled out application online, received a phone call two days later for a phone interview, then received a call about three days after the phone interview to go to in to the local home depot for a interview. Today is friday and my interview is next thursday so we will see what happens!
