I applied online. I interviewed at Tesco (Broughton, Wales) in Jul 2017
Interview
I applied online and was invited to a face to face interview. This turned out to be a 2 hour interview process. Firstly, there was a far to face interview with a manager, but I was interviewed with another candidate. We were both asked the same questions, even though I was a school leaver and he was a 50 year old manager of a customer services team. Next, we went on the shop floor, and were asked to talk with customers and pack their shopping. The store was very quiet, and all the candidates were looking for people to help.
Finally, there was a team building exercise in which we had to build a 6 foot tower out of paper within 5 minutes. It had to be free standing for a minute, and ecologically sound. There were 6 in the group of all ages.
I applied through jobs. Ie. I uploaded my cv and answered some multiple choice questions. Two days later I got a phone call and was asked to come in the following day to an interview. The room was small and I was interviewed by two members of management. I was asked first to tell them about myself and why I would like to work for Tesco.they told me it was a twenty hour contract but I might need to work more hours. They also told me I could be working in any department of the store from bakery to the till.

They were looking for genuine, friendly, helpful people who would work hard and not complain. Looking for teamwork and some measured leadership qualities. It is important to be confident and speak up to sell yourself, but do not try to exclude others. They appeared to favour an inclusive atmosphere of cooperation.
