      Cashier Interview

      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Target in Sep 2013

      Interview

I filled out an online application and was called for a phone interview a few weeks later. The phone interview was where most of the questions were asked, but they are the typical, "Why do you want to work for Target?" "Tell me about a time when you had to work as a team and give examples of how that worked for you." It was very cookie-cutter and didn't require very much knowledge about the specifics of the company, so just look over your resume and get some examples ready before they call you if you'd like to be more prepared for that. I was asked if I could meet with one of the managers at 2 that afternoon and that I still needed to complete a questionnaire in the store before the interview. I showed up 30 minutes early in order to complete the questionnaire so I'd have time before meeting with the manager as not to keep them waiting. It seemed like no one knew what to do with me because the process was so unorganized. I eventually went to the kiosk for the questionnaire which said, "You have completed all questionnaires online within the past 60 days." They then told me to wait because they thought the manager had already left for the day. About 20 minutes of sitting, another lady requested that I try the questionnaire again. She had reset my questions that they had obviously misplaced because I remember having done the exact same questions a few weeks ago. It's a simple personality-type questionnaire, so it didn't bother me too greatly even though it felt like busy-work. After finishing the questionnaire again, I was asked to wait for another 30-40 minutes. When I finally saw the manager, she was actually very friendly and didn't ask very many questions at all. It was mostly, "Tell me about yourself" and "Tell me about a time you made a mistake and what you learned from it." It didn't take very long at all, but after that, they sent me back to someone in HR who realized that I needed to take a drug test within 24 hours. It was a Friday and the place had already closed for the day as it was well past 3 PM at that point, and they didn't test on the weekends. I offered to go to a place fairly close where another job had sent me thinking that it wouldn't matter as it was even the same company to be shushed and told, "Just let me think for a minute." She googled drug screening places in the area and told me that I would need to go to a place in the complete opposite direction, through rush hour traffic and get there within the hour before they too closed, "Oh, and by the way-- you'll be making $8/hr. I'm not sure if they told you that in the interview." They hadn't. It was so incredibly unorganized. I didn't write all of this to insult Target as I feel as though they are a good company, but I wanted someone else who might also get nervous during the interviewing process like I do to know that you should not be nervous whatsoever. The questions they ask will come much easier knowing that you can be a bit more relaxed during the whole situation.

      Question 1

There were no difficult questions. They are all very typical interview questions to judge personalities and experience. They asked why I wanted to work for Target and asked that I tell them about specific situations. "Tell me about a time when you worked as a part of a team." "Tell me about the experience you've had that was similar to this position." "If I asked a former boss to tell me one strength and one weakness, what examples would they give?"

      Interview

It was overall very brief from applying to hearing back. Was just a day of meeting with a couple managers and talking through a cashier job. Nothing too out of the ordinary for a role like this.
