The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Sysco (Mount Dora, FL) in Aug 2021
Interview
Applied online via Glassdoor which sent me to their website. The recruiter invited me to complete one virtual preliminary interview where I type and video record my responses. I was sent a “problem solving and personality assessment” the next day I was invited to interview with the hiring manager at a local restaurant. If I were deemed worthy, I would have interviewed with a panel of managers. Then, Possibly receive an offer.
Overall, Sysco has done studies that suggest the people who succeed the most within the role are “attention whores”, people who love recognition, competitive and tenacious individuals. (I asked the interviewer, these were his answers). The role was offering 52k salary. Expect to work 60-65 hours a week for the first 3-5 years. Expect competition with co-workers. Vacation Trips and trophies are given as incentives. Expect 300-500 miles driven on your personal car. (Ask for a car allowance!)
My advice is to be honest with yourself and the interviewer. Don’t lie about your beliefs and personality. You will only waste your time and theirs because eventually you will quit or get fired.
I’m appreciative of the opportunity to interview. I wanted to work for Sysco when I worked in the food industry. I left the industry in 2019 and became a superintendent in construction. And deep down I believe the interviewer knew I was going to reject an offer. I was simply curious as to what package I would be offered. Or he thought I wasn’t competitive enough because I don’t value $50 trophies. Nonetheless, it feels good to close and lock the door on Sysco.
Interview questions [8]
Question 1
How important is competition to you and give an example of a time you were competitive?
I applied online. I interviewed at Sysco (New Orleans, LA) in Feb 2020
Interview
The process consisted of a phone interview followed by an in-person interview with two managers. The phone interview was a standard scenario based interview where it was clear they were looking for you to answer with the STAR method.
The in-person interview seemed more casual with the managers talking about the training process and job duties.
