I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Slack in Apr 2019
Interview
Initial interview with the recruiter, written exercise, and then a phone conversation with the hiring manager - all went well, and I felt enthusiastic about it. Responses were relatively prompt. The interview was led chronologically, so I was asked my strengths and weaknesses about every job on my resume - including jobs from when I was working part time retail in college. No questions were asked about my approach or philosophy on customer experience or management, and the people leading the interview seemed more interested in old roles which weren't relevant to the job I was applying for. I got the impression that my rejection was largely based on culture incompatibility, and was actually relieved when a little over a week later the recruiter reached out to let me know I wasn't moving forward.

Interview
After sending an application online, I got an email asking me to complete a writing assessment. It was typical customer questions you would receive in the role. Once I sent that in, I got a phone interview with the recruiter and another one with the customer service manager. I did not get invited to the last step which would be an in person interview with 4 people, 30 minutes each.
I am sure they get a lot of qualified candidates applying so it seems the hiring is based on personality, at least for the customer service roles. I expected better given the reviews I read about the company. Was not a transparent process and communication was often delayed.
For a company that preaches diversity the interview process felt contrary to that. It would seem they pass up a lot of good people based on assumptions and quick personal judgements. Perhaps working at the company is a different experience but the interview process was not a good one.

Interview
Multiple rounds of interviews including phone screenings as well as face to face. The process went very smoothly and the interviewers had a variety of questions to answer.
Unfortunately at the end of the day, while my feedback was that I didn't have any faults, I was not offered a role because someone else was a stronger applicant.
However the overall experience was a very pleasant one.
