      Business Analyst Interview

      Positive experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Riot Games (Santa Monica, CA) in Oct 2013

      Interview

Recruiter was very candid and open about the job process from the get go. Had 3 rounds of phone interviews with hiring manager, analysts as well as as another lead. Technical questions were pretty minimal at first as Riot is all about their culture and LoL. I spent a lot of time studying about the game since I did not play it all all before this interview and realized what a cult following it has. SQL questions were not in the forefront and neither were behavioral type questions. Mostly, brain teasers that I do not believe truly accesses the capability of the individual as Google just realized. Not sure if this place was the right fit for me, but had a positive interview process.

      Question 1

Brain teasers galore, don't get caught up reading up online as they will come up with their own versions

      Interview

Applied online. Heard back 5 weeks later and got a phone interview. The interview involved several league flavored tricky math questions. Got an email a week later saying I wasn't a fit for the position. Friendly process overall.

      Question 1

If 5 teemos can plant 5 mushrooms in 5 minutes, how long does it take 20 teemos to plant 100 mushrooms?

      Interview

I applied online, took them 1 week to contact me. HR was not being so friendly, he used the tone like: after reviewing your application, I was asked to contact you instead of I want to interview you. Next, there was an SQL exercise to be done within 48 hours. 11 questions total along with 3 data sets, not so easy since I am kind new to SQL. However, I still got most of the questions done. (In the exercise, they says we do not expect you to finish every questions, but also care about your thinking process) A week later, I got contacted by the HR again and scheduled for an technical interview with the "team". After a brief introductions, there were 2 parts: 1) brain teasers, 2) SQL skills. I would say that the brain teasers questions were difficult and I wasn't much prepared for. The "team" were nice, they walked me through most of them. After the technical interview, they sent me a rejection email. To be honest, I only applied for Riot Games, because of the fact I have been playing LOL for quite a while. However, if you read other reviews. It seems like Riot Games is definitely not a good place to work, there was a lot of culture fit issues, as well as your personal development along with the long run of the company. I think that I will stop buying RP based on the SQL exercise. Since most of the questions were about "how to monetize". I know money is definitely one of the important factor to keep the business running, but I had rather to work in a company where they value their user experience more than just how to monetize.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Example of the SQL exercise: For accounts that are reported exactly n times in 2012 (n = 1, 2, …), what is the average amount spent by these accounts for different payment types in different months in 2012? What percent of the monetized accounts gets reported before they monetize? Example of the brain teaser questions: sum of 1-99 sum of a 10x10 matrix, 1st row and 1st column are 1,2,...10. where the first row is: 1,2,..,10, the first column is: 2,4,..,20. and the last row is: 10,20,...,100. sum of a 3 dimension with rows and columns from 1-10 just like the previous question. pets doubling everyday. at day 25, it reaches to the capacity. how many days it will fit in half of the capacity. clock, degree between 3 and 3:25 clock, degree when hour head and minute head overlap at 3-4 oclock.
