Interview
The typical interview process with a positive twist. There was a recruiter interview, followed by a "homework", followed by a technical interview, followed by their version of "the loop". Overall, they tried to make the process (especially the technical interview) positive and real-world-like.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
A typical combination of behavioral and technical questions. E.g.: why do you leave your current role, what do you expect in the new role, describe past failures, describe past successes. On the technical side, the problems were tailored to allow you to succeed by emphasizing your ability to solve problems, not to "get you" because you were not familiar with some obscure algorithm nuance.
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot
Interview
Initially had a phone call with recruiter who was really helpful in every step of the way during the entire process. Then I was asked to solve 3 hour coding challenge related to ReSt service and JSON data processing. This exercise was easy but time consuming. After successfully completing it I had an on-site scheduled with manager and another senior IC. An interview with manager was more on the behavioral side. The technical interview question was very easy array leetcode question
and I solved it completely. Throughout the technical interview the interviewer seems to be confused with the approach and kept nudging me in other direction. Due to which I lost lots of time. She was poker faced whenever I asked any clarifying question and kept counter questioning me. For example the input to the question was not stated with her problem statement. When I asked her can I choose it to be list she said choose whatever you want. After choosing List input I stated my solution accordingly and then she asked me to have array as an input. I have heard so many good things about Hubspot interview process and I did not expected this. Maybe there are always some bad eggs in the basket. I was unlucky to encounter one. So despite solving coding challenge and tech interview question I got rejected. It was a waste of 5 hours. This may be just my experience but wanted to share here with community. Also I don’t know why but Hubspot pays what too less for senior engineer level. Also their stock sharing is peanuts.
