I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Goldman Sachs (New York, NY) in Jul 2008
Interview
Long day of interviews with 5 or 6 people. AFTER about 3 rounds of phone interviews. Paperwork to fill out was more extensive than CIA. Face to face interviews were to see if you'd be a good fit. Good people there, except for a guy leading a commodities area named JB.

Interview
I already worked for the company and was interviewing for an internal role. It was a very easy process because I had already built up a reputation in the firm. The manager asked good questions about relatable skills and asked for examples. It wasn't one of those interviews where they ask ridiculous questions like how many gas stations are in the US. It was straightforward. There were three parts, introduction or interviewer and self intro (3 min each). About 20 minutes of questions from the interviewer followed. Then there was about 5 minutes for my questions about the role and firm.

Interview
Never interview during the holiday season. Most the upper managements were out of the office. I interviewed with the team members instead. A lot of questions to ask but did not explain what they actually do.
