I applied online. I interviewed at Bain & Company (Londres, Angleterre) in Dec 2012
Interview
The whole process was very encouraging and even fun. You arrive and you get escorted to a room with other interviewees and very friendly HR staff who give you a package containing the background of your interviewers and your first interviewer collects you from here. The round consisted of a competency and estimation interview with an Bain AC first and then a case study interview with a more senior Bainee with no waiting around in between. Both lasted 45 minutes.
The first interview was more of a conversation - initially prompting me to talk him through my life (career) and then about activities that the AC had highlighted or found interesting. Questions were - what was your best achievement at X company, and he asked the logistical questions about a society I established and ran - how big was it, was it in a team, were the team members just friends (no), how many events did you have and is it still running. I got the feeling - that answers needed to be results driven. The estimation was on what a music festival goer spends (from start to finish), but was more conceptual than driving the estimation to the end and there were some case study type questions intergrated into the estimation - like how would you increase the revenue.
The second interview was straight into the case - where I had to think of the costs involved for a particular manufacturing company A who was company B's supplier. Company B considered ordering a less processed product from Company A and would therefore do the rest of the processing in house leaving Company A with less revenue per order. I had to advise Company A on what to say to Company B to convince them to just order the finished product.
Three rounds of interviews, generally 2 rounds in person or remote with live consultants. Each round involves a 2-3 case interviews each, which generally also include a set of behavioural questions.
Stattdessen Reaktionsfragen à la „Wie würdest du in Situation XYZ reagieren?". Mit solider Vorbereitung nichts Unerwartetes. Alle Interviewer sehr freundlich und aufgeschlossen — angenehme, entspannte Atmosphäre throughout.
2 rounds of 3 interviews.
The first round includes a fit interview.
All interviews feel very relaxed, but they still expect you to move through the case fast and in a structured way.
