I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at AlphaSights (New York, NY) in Dec 2011
Interview
I applied for an Analyst position at AlphaSights after seeing a posting for it on my university career services website. I got a response pretty quickly to schedule an interview. The interview was in their NYC office, which is in the Flatiron District. It was a small office but nice and modern as is typical of Flatiron office spaces. I met with two people for a group interview, one which was a senior analyst and the other was director of the NYC office. The interview was behavioral with a couple situational questions related to the position. It all seemed to go well and the interviewers were friendly.
I didn't hear back from them until a couple months later when they emailed me asking to submit my GPA and test scores, if I was still interested. I submitted the information and again didn't hear back until a couple months after that when I received an email about a phone interview. I figured it was just a call to touch base until I realized that the person on the phone (one of the people I met with originally) thought I was a first time candidate and started to ask me questions as if we had never met before. Clearly, they had mismanaged my first application and interview, lost me in the shuffle and, when they found my resume again somehow, forgot I had already interviewed and tried to interview me again. Awkward! The interviewer seemed very uncomfortable and said he would figure out what happened and call me back. I did not expect to hear from them again, and I didn't.
I went to a top university in the US, I was already employed and was looking to make a career change and AlphaSights was very unprofessional throughout the process. They did not make a good impression, especially when they are competing to take market share away from the very dominant Gerson Lehrman Group. Good luck with that guys.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I did not expect to deal with an amateur recruiting effort.
I applied online and got an email requesting an interview 1 week later. The first round is a video interview consisting of 3 questions- what does AlphaSights do, what other kinds of jobs am I looking for, tell me about myself. The second round is a phone interview with an HR person. He basically just wanted to get a feel for what kind of job you are looking for and who you are. The third round is in the office, more of the same questions. Overall, everyone was very nice and cordial. Good overall interviewing experience.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at AlphaSights (New York, NY) in May 2012
Interview
For the first round interview you have to answer three questions that are recorded using your computers videocamera. It is not to difficult but you should prepare because they are very critical evaluators.
