      Business Development Internship Interview

      Jun 23, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      München, Bavaria
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Allianz (München, Bavaria) in May 2021

      Interview

So, I've had some interviews in my life, but this one was BY FAR, the most bizarre one I have ever had. First off, in the description of the application, they wrote that the starting date was ASAP, which was the thing I liked the most about it. Yet, they took several weeks to get back to me, have an initial screening interview before the main interview with the manager, and took even longer to come up with a decision. This is where things get interesting. There were supposed to be three people interviewing me (I was told that in the email), yet only two interviewers showed up in time. When the third one joined the call (30 minutes late) the two that were already in the call were shocked as apparently, they had no clue that a third person was supposed to be there. The one who showed up late had to leave early as apparently, he had an important meeting to attend (needless to say, he didn't ask me any questions). He was asked by the manager to explain what he does in his job, and he couldn't explain that properly and had to be stopped several times. The manager goes like: yeah. not that one, explain this one instead. Yeah, but what exactly? Yeah, but how do you do it? I swear that was embarrassing to watch. The interview itself had absolutely no structure. The manager decides to go on his own and says: I am not going to ask you any questions. I'm just gonna tell you about the job itself and goes on to complain how the role will be stressful, annoying, and that I'll have to repeat tasks and reports until they're happy. After almost 20 minutes of trashing the role, he said there are a few good things about it, as I could learn a lot. Out of the blue, he asks the HR girl (who seemed thoroughly unprepared) to ask me something. She stumbled and goes... erm... yeah, erm..., uhmmm, yeah... how do you react in stressful situations? My God, what the hell was that? They said they'll get back to me in 2 weeks. They ended up reaching out almost 2 MONTHS after, only to say that the management had decided for another candidate, but they still thought I was a strong candidate and that they'd consider me for other roles. Even if they were to give me the role, I wouldn't do it. As I previously said, it was noted that the starting date would be ASAP, not 3-4 months after you get in touch with us. Also, if the interview was any indication of the job itself or the work environment, I was 100% sure I didn't want to be in such an environment. For me, it was absolutely shocking that such a huge company would have this kind of process in place. Just wanted to put that as a notice to any student that is considering them for an internship or even a full-time job.

      Question 1

How do you react in stressful situations? That was pretty much the only question I got, from three people.
